Much like Question Papers and Self-Declaration, e-learning is modelled as a ‘special’ element.Permission 435 is required to view the “HRSS” element for “E-Learning”. This is allocated in the normal way via Permissions Admin and should be allocated to managers that need to see who has undertaken the e-learning. It will appear at the bottom of the normal elements screen in Competence > Competence Management.
Permission 482 is required to allocate the element. This should be allocated to managers who need to enroll staff in the e-learning.
You can only set a user’s element to ‘Awaiting E-Learning’. This is also done via the normal way – [New Competence Award] link at the top – or to whole departments etc at at time via the new [New Mass Award] link at the top.
Once a user is ‘Awaiting E-Learning’ they will be able to see it in their My Competence, ‘E-Learning’ tab at the top.
At the end of the course, provided the user manages all the answers, their element will be updated to ‘Completed’, with two file uploads: their certificate and a description of the syllabus showing the content of the course and what the user was assessed on. The user can download the certificate if they want to. The syllabus document is more valuable to the railway as evidence of their training for you to consider in a competence assessment.

Note. The data controller for data relating to these cross-railway elements is HOPS, and a user’s status and evidence in this element will be accessible to all the railways the user works on.
There is no fee to take part in this e-learning, it is available free to all heritage railways. For transparency, it is intended that future e-learning courses will attract a small cost to meet the expenses of building and delivering the courses.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH to all the railways that have contributed content, been involved in testing, and given feedback on this e-learning – it is a magnificent example of heritage railways working together to save everyone time and effort starting from scratch at 130 different railways!
